Product Development Manager

Executive Summary

As BDI’s Product Development Manager, you will report directly to our Design Director. In this challenging and highly rewarding position, your abilities to build a team, and to lead and communicate are vital components to our success and will make an immediate impact on the company. This position requires someone with exceptional project management skills who can confidently inspire, lead and advise their team. You will be responsible for the product development process from start to finish, recognizing potential obstacles, finding solutions and recommending more efficient processes. At BDI we have great ideas and strong voices. We want you to organize and communicate the finer details and use your intellect, initiative and creativity to drive the process.

As our Product Development Manager, you appreciate the value of a Gantt chart, you know your way around computer design tools, you know how to evaluate materials and standardize components, and you can effectively communicate with all levels of the organization throughout the process.   • In a design driven environment like ours new products are like oxygen. We count on you to work with marketing, design and production to keep the oxygen flowing. Your well reasoned project schedules (both short and long-term) make the difference in whether a product is a success at shows like the High Point Market, or just a missed deadline. Your success meeting product launch deadlines is immediately reflected in company sales.

Your success in developing detailed product briefs helps our designers understand our needs. Your success at solving problems during development and initial prototyping will allow us to avoid costly delays in bringing new products to market.
  • We enjoy an excellent, productive relationship with our suppliers. We’ll rely on you to formalize and document all necessary production issue and testing requirements for our products. You’ll also manage and document all engineering changes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prioritize all new product development projects and manage each project through to completion by specific deadline.
  • Coordinate proper documentation of all development projects.
  • Maintain regular communication with marketing and operations to keep departments informed about upcoming product launches.
  • Troubleshoot development issues by working with design and manufacturing to find cost-effective and time critical solutions.
  • Develop a process to consistently and rigorously test all new products for safety and durability.
  • Develop packaging to ensure our products arrive safely.
  • Work with the Chief Operations Officer to evaluate new and ongoing production from factories.
  • Keep sustainability at forefront of BDI’s product development effort to create products that are environmentally responsible.
  • Visit overseas suppliers 3-4 times a year to evaluate quality, review production processes and ensure the production of products that support BDI’s strong brand.

Experiences and Attributes

  • Familiar with Computer Aided Design (CAD) and project management tools like MS-Project. AutoDesk Inventor experience is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in MS Office.
  • Prior involvement in the manufacturing of consumer products or furniture.
  • Ability to think strategically while adding value and managing day-today development.
  • Concise, accurate, effective communication skills – able to express and defend a point of view, push for a decision and present facts in a convincing way.
  • Collaborative and inclusive work style – an inspirational leader who is comfortable sharing both information AND credit.

Digital Marketing Manager

Are you passionate about great design and an innovative marketing generalist with strengths in digital marketing and social media? BDI is a premier designer and manufacturer of modern home furnishings specializing in media furniture, office solutions and shelving systems. Our furniture is distributed through a retail network of home furnishings, consumer electronics and online retailers.

BDI is looking for a professional to join our Marketing department. The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • A thorough awareness of digital marketing to include supervising web site development, online media plan, social media, etc.
  • A focus on great design and a strong attention to detail

This well-rounded Marketing professional will be joining our Marketing team in our office located in Chantilly, VA. Job focus includes partnering with creative teams to develop the BDI web site, search engine optimization, product videos, manage social media presence, digital advertising, and more.

With the ability to create and execute innovative marketing programs, this candidate will be responsible for day-to-day functions involved in the development and presentation of the BDI brand, focusing on the Home Furnishing and Consumer Electronics channels and targeting both retailers and end consumers. Will also partner with the Marketing and Executive teams to provide consistent brand strategy, presentation and messaging across all platforms.


General Marketing Requirements

  • Create, plan and execute marketing strategies and objectives
  • Develop and maintain Marketing budget
  • Interpret Market Research to ensure that Company messaging is consistent and effectively targeted
  • Coordinates all internal and external marketing and promotional efforts including but not limited to sales materials, trade show management, advertising and public relations, website management and social media

Website Management / SEO

  • Develop and maintain look of BDI website,, with assistance of graphic design team and/or web agency. .
  • Update regularly with new product information, discontinuations, FAQ, etc.
  • Insure that best practices are being followed to maximize search engine visibility

Social Media / Customer & Consumer Outreach

  • Responsible for maximizing effective messaging of BDI’s presence throughout social media
  • Expand and develop consumer database and explore new ways to market to them through email marketing, blogging, etc.
  • Develop regular customer and consumer communications through the form of online e-newsletters.

Additional Responsibilities This role will also contribute to other BDI Marketing efforts including:

  • Participation in several trade shows throughout the year
  • Support of other Marketing activities
  • Supervision of Marketing Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS The appropriate candidate should have extensive knowledge and experience in digital marketing and/or website development. Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to work effectively under deadlines while managing concurrent projects. Creative problem-solver. Strong attention to details is important and a passion for great design is useful. Proficient computer skills (In Design, Excel, Photoshop and Microsoft Office) are required.

EDUCATION Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred.

EXPERIENCE 5-7 years of Marketing Project Management experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
